I am loving the layout and design of Brian Gossett's Heist Series... his mixes are free to download and do a pretty good job of transporting you right into a heist film.

PANDAPHANTS

After a panda-crazed zoo in Thailand began to see a loss of interest in its elephants, they decided to, of course!, paint the elephants... which is sort of genius when you think about it.

Can you believe it is July?! In my opinion, this is when summer truly begins. I am headed to Seattle and then eastern Washington to visit family and friends... and it is just my luck that it is super sunny and warm up there! I just stumbled upon Pratt Libraries' extensive Flickr pool of bookplates from the 19th and 20th centuries...complete with amazing typography.

DESTINATION: PROVENCE

I couldn't wait to share images of Hotel Crillon le Brave in Provence, France—my travel destination du jour (and it really does change daily...). In addition to its stunningly relaxing pool and grounds, Hotel Crillon hosts cooking courses with Provençal chefs, where truffle hunting is part of the program. {Also, in celebration of its 20th anniversary, the hotel is offering 20 rooms each month at €20 per room (!) for all of 2009.....}

As a belated (like most things in my life at the moment) father's day post, I wanted to share the sketches of Richard Haines and his blog, What I Saw Today, where he sketches NYC street style as he sees it. Recently he has sketched in-store at the new JCrew Men's Store in Soho and the JCrew store in East Hampton... which would have made a great gift! {Top sketch, bottom photos}

This week Oh Joy partnered with Dwell Studio and held a very cool contest (that I completely missed the boat on). Readers were asked to choose their favorite Dwell pattern and pair it with a fashion item found online... My pick for the winner would have to be this one by Jessica, who chose Dwell's sketch print (my favorite) and this Heidi Merrick dress (another favorite). {Layout by Oh Joy.}

I owe Victoria a huge thank you introducing me to Loft Life Magazine. Devoted entirely to loft living and design, the homes featured are nothing if not inspiring. Though I have a certain level of phobia about the ultra modern, it is hard not to admire the simple, clean, pared down approach that usually goes with living with all that open space. {Images from Loft blog. PINHOLE

I picked up this fun little paper pinhole camera kit from the Santa Barbara Museum of Art store for mere dollars, which now brings my number of toy cameras up to a somewhat rediculous level. Anyways, I am excited to see what develops. I'll be sure to keep you posted! {View some of my favorite pinhole photography here}

THE SHORE

Last week while visiting my Grandfather on the Jersey Shore, we made a point of going on a little polaroid safari of the Seaside Heights boardwalk... and it did not disappoint. It also didn't disappoint on the people watching front...

I highly recommend signing up for the email list of UK retailer Toast. Then you can receive beautiful little photos (and accompanying video) in your inbox to brighten your day. Their summer ad campaign (filmed primarily in Crete) will make you want to pack up and go...

RODGER STEVENS

In all the coverage I've seen of ICFF, another standout in my eyes is designer Rodger Stevens who creates some amazingly detailed wire works. I especially love his lighting projects, exhibited with Abingdon 12 Gallery. {Image via New York Magazine}

HACOA

Japanese design company Hacoa left a big impression on the just-wrapped 2009 NY Design Week (ICFF) with their wooden keyboard (which rumor has it also comes in a DIY version, complete with a mini saw to separate the keys)... and a visit to their website is chalk full of other little wood beauties for the office.

TORTOISESHELL
