GRAYPANTS, MADE FROM SCRAP

The duo of architects behind Graypants (best name ever) are recycling pros, and the items they use usually look a whole lot better the second time around. Case and point, their scrap lights, made out of salvaged pieces of corrugated cardboard (available at Velocity in Seattle) and their plywood scrap chairs.

WELCOME TO RYANTOWN

The fabulous Mr. Rob Ryan, as I've most often heard him referred, has opened his long-awaited shop, Ryantown, on Columbia Road in London. You may have seen Rob Ryan's work in numerous magazines and his sweet paper-cut screenprints are kind of a big deal. Visit his (usually sold out) Etsy shop here. {All images by Rob Ryan}

ELLE MOSS PHOTOGRAPHY

Today was one of those days when the internet proved to be endlessly full of good stuff and etsy led me to the self-portrait photography of Elle Moss. It is grainy, quirky, Amelie meets a nostalgic Alice In Wonderland, meets Blonde Redhead, and is so very extra-ordinary. View her phenominal work via blog, etsy, and flickr. {All images copyright Elle Moss}

ANALYZE YOUR STYLE

MyDeco, the brand-new source for design organization, has toppled many preconceived notions with their online style quiz. I have realized that my style should probably be in a category all to itself called All Over The Place. Apparently it is also called sleek chic, barcelona cool, and super-cool country.... and includes the above room from Soho House.

THE BEACHES OF LE TOUQUET

This week poppytalk had a great summery post on beach hut changing rooms that led me to the these lovely photographs from Lylith's Flickr site. I am just beginning to explore Flickr (a ways behind, I know!) and the amount of gorgeous photographs are endless!

MAMMA MIA

I wouldn’t exactly call Mamma Mia award-winning—but I would call it the most fun I’ve seen on screen in a while and the perfect summer movie. I sort of forgot that the film was a musical until half way through the opening scene when the lead girl broke out into song mid-sentence… once I stopped laughing and the scenery, colors, and sets began to take off, I really got into it. Until Pierce Brosnan started to sing.

The film was shot on location at the perfectly beautiful Skopelos Island in Greece. Expect their visitor population to quadruple. {Image from M&C, click here for the trailer}

WIPE AWAY THE CONFUSION, TAKE THE M25

UK Designer Shaz Madani was commissioned to help promote the M25 motorway around London, and created this amazing ad campaign. The text composes one side of the poster and “gives the exact directions that would have to be taken in order to travel from one side of London to the other.” Clever. View the rest of Shaz Madani's creative design profile here. {via 2modern}

{Chris and Jo… if you can get your hands on one of these, I would be forever grateful!!}

826 TIME TRAVEL POSTERS

These whimsical Time Travel Posters were designed by illustrator Amy Martin for 826LA {a very awesome non-profit writing center for children originated by author Dave Eggers (of A.H.W.O.S.G.)} They will be sold at the 826 Echo Park Time Travel Mart location — "serving all your time travel needs." 826's Time Travel Mart will be joining SF's Pirate Store, Brooklyn's Super Hero Supply Co., Chicago's Boring Store, and more. Creativity at its most clever.

If you have an 826 in your city, consider yourself lucky, bring your kids, and get involved!

FELT TIP PRINT

London artist Daniel Eatock has seriously made me smile with his Felt Tip Print (enlarge for the full effect), for which he lined up a slough of Pantone pens and balanced a sheet of paper on their tips. This project completely reminds me of being a kid and trying out hundreds of pen and paper combinations... except they never really turned out quite this well.

HOME DECOR INSPIRATION

Since I’m on a home decor kick… pretty (albeit girly!) inspiration from the home of Liza Giles, senior stylist for Designer’s Guild. Check out the frameless mirrors in the bathroom... {Images from Elle Decoration UK, October 2007, photographed by James Merrell. Via here}

LOFT BATH

"This tub is in a space we can't really name. It's not a bathroom or even a bedroom, from what we can tell. It looks like a tub right in the middle of a big, open loft...” {via Apartment Therapy. Photo from klaraj's flickr}

I wouldn't ordinarily think this was my style... but I love the look of this space! Especially the antlers, reclaimed text, and cabin-in-the-city feel.

SHIM + SONS MOUSE PADS

I have never put thought into a mouse pad until now. I just bought this handmade one from Portland-based Shim + Sons sweet online shop to help liven up my office. It's the little things...

APOLIS + ACTIVISM SALE

My good friends at Apolis Activism are holding their annual summer trunk sale this Saturday in SB... if you are local, may I suggest picking up a Defend Tomorrow tote and long slub tank? The best part, well, in addition to their finely crafted clothes, is knowing that you are supporting the Activism of Apolis. {Images from Apolis}

3191: A YEAR OF EVENINGS

“we are stephanie and mav. we live 3191 miles apart. we don't stay up too late.”I first linked to 3191: A Year of Mornings from my friend Raya last year and was immediately impressed. The (very well taken) photographs and general idea behind the site are simple, but the result takes the whole “photo a day” concept to a fantastic new level.

A Year of Mornings will soon be a published book and the site has segued into A Year of Evenings, which is, in my opinion, just as beautiful and even more mood-provoking than the first. {Images: May 8, 2008, June 17, 2008. Copyright 3191: A Year of Evenings}

KEEP CALM GALLERY & PAUL SMITH

I was pretty excited to see that one of my favorite design shops, Keep Calm Ltd (Hayley & Lucas), has joined visual forces with excentric British designer Paul Smith for a showing at his Space Gallery in Japan. I also loved their exhibition at Urban Retreat in Harrods of London, and think they are making some pretty cool business moves.

If you don't already own a Keep Calm print and would like one, I suggest you get a move on before they become "huge in Japan." {Images via Keep Calm Ltd. Blog}
